The first book on Nimbarka Sampradaya was published as a hardbound volume by Jayadeva in 1343 featuring the Divine Couple Radha and Krsna in his own style as the guru and the disciple. The book is known as the Jvala Shataka.[52] The book features the Divine Couple Radha and Krsna as ‘daiva sapta’, meaning two great gods. The book was written in Vraja language, a modern Hindi vernacular language.[53] It helped establish the philosophy of the Nimbarka Sampradaya and champion the grass roots teachings of the divine couple in the modern age. The book contains useful notes on the universal teaching of the Vaishnava school which are useful to any Bhakta, irrespective of the particularity of the commentary. It also helped popularise the name Radha during this period. In this volume, Jayadeva has already mentioned Radha’s name as ‘Radhika’ in the verses of Bala Kanda part of the book. However, the first mention of Radha emanates from Debiprasad Dwivedi’s book Samvada in 1448. However, the author is completely unaware of the existence of Jayadeva’s authorship for the Jvala Shataka. He is a devotee of Bhima-laxmi. His work has the following title in Vraja language, ‘Vrindavshati’ and is the only book on Nimbarka Sampradaya on Vedic literature. His work has been translated into Hindi/English by Jayadeva’s disciple Mukunda Varma.[54] In this volume, Dwivedi has mentioned the name of Radha as Radhika in the 36th chapter of the Bala Kanda only. However, Jayadeva has mentioned her name as ‘Vrindavika’ somewhere earlier even. Depending on the verse where the name is found, it is either a reference to her as Krsna’s ‘Vrinda’ or as Krsna’s ‘Ami Vrinda’. In the later case, Dwivedi would have been influenced by Jayadeva’s authorship as a complete ignoramus of all Vedic literature.[55] 7211a4ac4a
